Bonsai clubs and societies which care for ficus ginseng are found all around the world including Australia, where the industry is booming.
It’s difficult to pinpoint just how many clubs and societies there are in Australia but there are no doubt many to choose from and quite often there will be one right near you.
These clubs and societies generally will have exhibitions, but most importantly give you access to information and other like minded individuals. A great start if you a beginner bonsai enthusiast.
Clubs in Victoria can be found everywhere from Bairnsdale to the Yarra Valley, while in New South Wales there are close to 20 different societies to choose from depending on your location.

The Association of Australian Bonsai Clubs Ltd (AABC) which was formed in Sydney in 1980 – there website is http://www.aabcltd.org and you should be able to find a club or society near you.
The Association mentions they have 57 member Clubs throughout Australia and four in New Zealand.
“The AABC aims to promote bonsai and support its Member Clubs. The Association offers:
- an annual Convention to disseminate bonsai information and to encourage bonsai enthusiasts around the country to obtain more knowledge and enjoyment of bonsai. The Conventions are usually held in May and in a different State each year and feature at least one international guest demonstrator;
- a Visiting Tutor Program which allows Member Clubs to use the Program once each financial year. The Clubs can select a tutor from the Register of Tutors and the AABC will reimburse the Club for the travelling costs, within specified limits;
- an insurance policy that covers all physical loss or damage to all bonsai trees, suiseki and equipment during travel to and from and whilst at Club exhibitions in Australia;
- a national magazine available to anyone by subscription;
- support of a general nature for all Member Clubs.
The Association is a member of World Bonsai Friendship Federation and Bonsai Clubs International and an inaugural supporter of the Asia-Pacific Bonsai and Suiseki Convention and Exhibition.”
Most clubs should deal in all variety of bonsai including ficus ginseng.
