My Grandfather’s Bonsai – But…they Aren’t Bonsai Ginseng

On the porch of my parent’s house lay three small bonsai, though not Bonsai Ginseng these are of the Japanese Maple variety and for many years they have sat there, somewhat neglected, but all the same still quite remarkable.

Previously my grandfather owned and cared for these and by all reports they are close to 50 years old, mere teenagers in age if you were to speak with a Japanese bonsai ‘grand master’, however still old given Australia’s place in the overall bonsai market and strict quarantine restrictions which make it difficult to import some older bonsai.

In my previous blog titled Bonsai Ginseng As An Investment I mentioned the recent sale of a 300 year old five needle pine; so comparatively my parents bonsai have a long way to catch up with this one not only in age but in its overall craftsmanship which is outstanding.

Over the next few months, my goal will be to nurture these three bonsai below and keep you posted on their development and growth not only in size but value. In addition i will give you tips on how best to look after these uniquely individual plants.
